Vitamins that will help weight loss and vitamins that will replenish and energize you in the process
This is the part of the weight loss puzzle that's not so hard and requires no willpower so it requires your undivided attention.
If you are trying to lose weight and are cutting back on calories, you need to make sure your body handles the change in the healthiest way possible. You've read it on back of cereal boxes and in every magazine and this still holds true, eat more fruits, vegetables and leafy green and fewer processed foods and take at least a multivitamin.
These are vitamins that will help you maintain health and a nutrient balance in your body, rev up your metabolism, help metabolize fat and reduce fat storage. At the very least, you should take a multivitamin.
Multivitamin- Centrum is a good all around vitamin
- A quality multivitamin and mineral supplement i.e. Femforte or Centrum
- B-complex (one that contains 50 mg of most of the B vitamins)
- Chromium Picolinate (recommend 200mcg per day)
- Zinc citrate (recommend 30 mg per day)
- Co-enzyme Q10 (recommend 30mg twice per day)
- Flaxseed oil or flaxseed oil pills (recommend 1000mg per day)
The roles specific vitamins play in the weight loss and weight maintenance process.
Vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6
Keeps your metabolism running (very important for weight loss) and ensures a healthy thyroid.
- B2 -Manage thyroid and metabolism
- B3/niacin -Maintains normal thyroid production
- B5 Pantothenic Acid - Generates energy for your body
- B6 Pyridoxine - Regulates thyroid hormone and keep metabolism burning
Choline and Inositol - These two help the fat in foods move through the body
The body requires :
- Calcium
Increases fat burning particularly in the abdominal area and encourages the release of fat from fat cells and reduces the amount of fat absorbed
- Chromium Picolinate Regulates glucose
- Iodine Stimulates the thyroid and promotes a healthier faster metabolism.
- Chromium Chromium processes carbohydrates and helps to reduce hunger pangs. A 3-month study of 122 overweight people found an average 6lb loss in those taking 400mcg of Chromium daily.
- Vitamin C Helps the body to convert glucose into energy and prevents it from being stored in your body. One study of seniors found that increased Vitamin C increased metabolism by around 100 calories a day.
- Zinc This is an important mineral in appetite control and a deficiency can cause a loss of taste and smell, creating a need for stronger tasting foods (which tend to be sweeter, saltier and more fattening!) Zinc also functions with vitamins A and E to manufacture the thyroid hormones.
- Co-enzyme Q10 Co-enzyme Q10 is needed for energy production. It is found in all the tissues and organs in the body. As we get older we may become deficient, which results in a reduction of energy. It has been used to help heart problems, high blood pressure, gum disease and immune deficiencies.
It has also been shown to help with weight loss. A study showed that people on a low-fat diet doubled their weight loss when taking Co Q10 compared to those using diet alone.
