Jogging Keeps Us Young
American researchers say that jogging maintains the body mobility and health regardless of age.
The study shows that physical degradation is delayed 16 years for people who practice jogging regularly.
The study conducted by researchers has been expended over a period of 20 years ; the researchers kept under observation a group of 500 people who were running on a regular basis and a similar group of people who were not physically active. At the beginning of the study, all subjects were in their first 50 years of life.
Researchers have observed that, in time, the physical capabilities of both categories of subjects weakened, many of them becoming in a greater or lesser extent handicapped. But, for joggers, the physical degradation began 16 years later than for the subjects who were not into sports.
Jogging keeps the heart diseases away
Research has revealed that, over a period of 19 years, 34% of the sedentary subjects died, while in the joggers cases the mortality was only 15%. Doctors say that the study demonstrates that jogging not only slows the appearance of heart diseases, but also that of cancer and neurological diseases.
At the beginning of the study, subjects were running, on average, four hours per week. After 21 years, the active people were jogging for approximately 76 minutes.
The study has a clear message for people to do physical exercises. If there is anything that makes people healthier at any age, then this is the exercise.
said Professor James Fries, one of the researchers. He added that the health benefits of jogging are greater than scientists believe. In addition, individuals can prolong life practicing regular physical exercise.
‘Do physical exercises!’
The statistics show that more than 90% of people aged over 75 years have failed in an attempt to maintain a weekly program of physical exercises.
Physical exercises can help older people to maintain mobility and independence, in this way ensuring a healthy heart and a good sleep.
said Gordon Lishman, general manager of the medical center at Stanford. He said that the research reconfirmed, in fact, the benefits that exercising has on people.

It is great to know that my 20 year jogging addiction is beneficial to my health. The part I love about jogging is the quietness of the woods. It is my opportunity to mental floss for the day. I always find that if you do a physical activity that you love you are more able to stick with it.
